This time, spam messages promoting the (bogus) Canadian pharmacy are sent with sensational, and somewhat offensive, news about Barack Obama and John McCain as message subjects. Here are a couple of email sample screenshots: Figure 1.The sensationalized subjects are used to lure recipients into opening the spammed message Figure 2.In true spammer fashion, the names of both candidates are notably misspelled In the past, we have reported many spam runs that banked on the popularity of both the Democrat and Republican candidates. As most people consider this election as one for the books, it also is an event impossible for spammers to ignore, knowing that it would take time before the news would die out. Especially in the coming months, as president-elect Barack Obama's inauguration in January draws near, spammers are sure to leverage these events even more. Rest assured, Trend Micro will always be on the lookout for such attacks so users need not worry of getting any of these preposterous spammed messages. Security Alert: Koobface Spreading Again on Facebook

Websense® Security Labs(TM) ThreatSeeker(TM) Network has discovered that the Koobface social networking worm is again spreading on Facebook.

The email reveals that infected user accounts are being used to post messages to Facebook friends lists. The content was an enticing message with a link that used a Facebook open redirector. When recipients click the link, they are automatically redirected multiple times, finally reaching a site masquerading as YouTube that serves a malicious Trojan downloader.

1. The Facebook link directs to a malicious account hosted at Geocities.com.
2. The malicious Geocities account includes an obfuscated JavaScript link to http://lost[REMOVED]/js/js.js, which goes to http://off3[REMOVED]/go/fb.php
